The community is warmly invited to attend a solemn and reverent Good Friday service, offering a time of deep reflection on the sacrifice and enduring love of Jesus Christ. This sacred gathering will center on “The Seven Last Words of Christ,” guiding attendees through scripture, prayer, and worship in a spirit of humility, gratitude, and devotion.

This meaningful service will feature a series of reflections delivered by respected faith leaders and speakers, each focusing on one of Christ’s final statements from the cross:

Rev. Felechia Wise — “Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do.” (Luke 23:34)
Dr. Tyeshia Reels — “Today shalt thou be with me in paradise.” (Luke 23:43)
Rev. Phyllis Riley — “Woman, behold thy son!” (John 19:26)
Min. Sylvia Smallwood — “My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?” (Matthew 27:46)
Rev. Pamela Powell — “I thirst.” (John 19:28)
Rev. Will Brown — “Father, into thy hands I commend my spirit.” (Luke 23:46)
Dr. Jalyn Lyde — “It is finished.” (John 19:30)

Interwoven throughout the service will be moments of praise and worship, creating a reflective and spiritually enriching atmosphere for all who attend.

“This Good Friday service is an opportunity for individuals and families to pause, reflect, and draw closer to the heart of the Easter message,” said Rev. Dr. Randall M. Lassiter, Senior Pastor. “We welcome all who seek a deeper understanding of faith, grace, and the power of Christ’s sacrifice.”

The Historic Calvary Baptist Church Mourns the Passing of Dr. Steven M. Rose

It is with profound sorrow and deep reverence that the Historic Calvary Baptist Church mourns the passing of Dr. Steven M. Rose, esteemed President of Passaic County Community College, an educational pioneer, a visionary leader, a mentor to countless lives, a cherished friend and a brother to this pastor and our entire church family.

Dr. Rose was more than a leader. He was a pillar of progress, a builder of futures, and a bridge of opportunity for generations of students throughout Passaic County and the State of New Jersey. His life’s work was not simply measured in titles or achievements, but in the lives he transformed, the doors he opened, and the hope he instilled in communities often overlooked.

Since assuming the presidency of Passaic County Community College in 1996, Dr. Rose led the institution through a remarkable era of expansion and innovation, more than doubling its size and extending its reach through additional campuses in Wanaque, Wayne, and Passaic. Under his leadership, the college became a beacon of access, equity, and excellence in higher education.

Yet, beyond his professional accomplishments, Dr. Rose’s greatest impact was felt in his relationships. He was a mentor to many, a trusted voice in times of decision, and a man whose wisdom carried both intellect and compassion. To this pastor, he was not only a colleague in community advancement, but a true brother, steadfast, supportive, and sincere.
